Tattoo Scab Prevention — Keep It Comfortable, Keep It Clean
A bit of light flaking through the heal is normal. Heavy, crusty scabbing usually isn't — and it's almost always a sign that the skin has been allowed to dry out. Tattoo scab prevention comes down to two things: keeping the area clean, and keeping it consistently moisturised through the early weeks.
The Dr Pickles routine is built for exactly that. Wash gently with the antibacterial foam wash, pat dry, then apply a thin layer of balm or gel. Repeat morning and evening. The balm helps the skin stay supple while it settles, which means less of the dry, hard layer you're trying to avoid.
